From October 18th to 22nd, 2023, representatives of SOC Opatija, Fran Rubeša, Sanja Škorić and Antonia Katić participated in the meeting of the Mediterranean Movement for Children’s Participation in Malta.
The Mediterranean Movement for Children’s Participation is an active network of Mediterranean organizations and individuals working to empower children and minors in the Mediterranean area. Sanja Škorić is a member of the Executive Board of the organization. Fran is a member of the 1st convocation of the Children’s Council of the Mediterranean Movement for Children’s Participation, and Antonia is a member of the organization’s working groups. The president of the organization is the former president of Malta, Marie Louise Coleiro Preca.
At the meeting, together with SOC Opatija, there were representatives of the movement’s member organizations from Slovenia, Cyprus, Malta, Tunisia and Serbia. Our representatives participated in the meetings of the Executive Board, the Day of the organization’s members and the General Assembly; they took part in a solemn ceremony held in Villa Bigha on the occasion of marking the UN International Day for Conflict Resolution and the awarding of the Lysistrata Award, which is awarded to exceptional individuals in the field of peace advocacy. Some of the distinguished guests were the president of the Mediterranean Movement for Children’s Participation and the former president of the Republic of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, the representative of the UN Secretary-General for Children and the Armed Forces Virginia Gamba, prof. Stephen Calleya, Member of the House of Representatives of Malta Anglu Farrugia and many others.
The common message of children and adults from the meeting is: “Together let’s advocate peace in the world!”
