CHILDREN’S CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OPATIJA

The Children’s City Council is an activity that enables children and young people to exercise their children’s rights and encourages them to actively participate in the life of the City of Opatija. The Children’s City Council enables children to freely express their opinions, make suggestions and participate in the decision-making process that raises the quality of life of children in their city.

The project has been successfully implemented since 2001, through cooperation between the City of Opatija, the Society Our Children Opatija, Elementary School Rikard Katalinić Jeretov Opatija and Elementary School Viktor Car Emin Lovran.

The Children’s City Council of the City of Opatija has become a model for many children’s councils in Croatia, but also in Europe.

Every year, the Children’s City Council of the City of Opatija announces a competition for the allocation of funds from their budget, entitled “My hands are growing bigger and bigger for you, because I want to give you happiness as well.”

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE COMPETITION?

  1. children and young people, up to 18 years of age, with residence in the area of the City of Opatija (one child, a group of children, classes, residents of a settlement, etc.),
  2. associations whose activities are focused on children,
  3. adults (parents, teachers, educators…).

WHAT CAN BUDGET FUNDS BE OBTAINED FOR?

Funds will be allocated for programs / actions / activities intended for children up to 15 years of age:

  • which raises the quality of life of children,
  • intended for a group of at least 20 children,
  • which will be implemented by the end of this year at the latest for which the cost estimate shows that they can be realized.
